What would Internet be without all amazing travel blogs? Not as fun or interesting, that’s for sure. One of the thousands of blogs making its mark in the online travel world is foXnoMad by travel enthusiast Anil Polat.
The Blog: The blog is aimed at people who love the journey as much as the destination, those who have a gypsy heart, love to travel and travel smarter. foXnoMad covers how to make the most out of any trip, save money, the best ways to stay in touch with other vagabonds and much more.
Anil combines valuable tips to travel news, posts about culture and sometimes beautiful photography - as in My trip to Delhi. Read by hundreds daily, this blog is a good place to gather information and gain new insights about traveling.
The Writer: Founder and writer Anil Polat has spent his whole life traveling and learning about other cultures. He created foXnoMad to, in his own words, “…connect with other travelers, discover their world, and share what I’ve learned about mine.”
The Look: With a white template against an olive green background, foXnoMad is easy on the eyes. The title foXnoMad and the subtitle “travel smarter” in yellow font color in the upper right hand corner works great, as does the page navigation. The Google ads below the header image are just right (neither disturbing nor irrelevant) and the content and sidebar are well arranged.
The blog posts are excellently organized, often with bolded headings, bullet points for an easier read, underlined words, and appropriate info links.
I would replace the header image because it is not clear enough to give a quality impression and lowers the overall impression. Other than that, all’s good.
The Content: The blog is updated regularly, five days per week, with an average of 30 posts a month. The consistency is perfect, not too often, or too seldom. Anil captures the reader’s attention with great, eye-catching titles and interesting, informative blog posts. He writes to the point and clearly knows what he is talking about. The destinations covered range from France and Spain to Egypt, Thailand and New Zealand. Today, when browsing through the archive, I almost couldn’t stop reading. The inevitable effect of an engaging and interesting blog.
The latest post, Unconventional Ways To Raise Funds For Your Travels gives useful tips on how to afford more trips. Other highlights include How to Make Money With Your Travel Blog, 8 Places In The World You Should Visit, But Might Be Scared To and What You Need To Know To Be An Expert Traveler In Airport Security Lines. How To Create A Simple Vacation Budget is another example of a great travel blog post.
Minus: As mentioned above, the header image. Also, I would like to see the categories featured on the blog.
Plus: The possibility to translate the page. (The grammatical errors in the Swedish version were more than a few though.) Fun contests such as the upcoming Inspire Me Africa Photo Contest.
