Cycling Through Geneva

the waterscape Cycling Through GenevaThe last part of the train ride along Lac Léman before we reached Geneva offered a view of  snow-covered peaks above the still lake, where fishermen and kayakers greeted the day.

After renting a bicycle in the bike shop behind Geneva’s railway station we went to Quay du Mont-Blanc, a long street by the lake lined with the city’s casino and fancy hotels. We continued to Genava’s main shopping streets Rue de la Conféderation, Rue du Marche and Rue de la Croix d’Or. After lunch, we saw Park La Grange and Park Eaux-Vives near Lac Léman, followed by gorgeous Jardin Anglais and Promenade du Lac near the bridge Pont du Mont-Blanc.

The afternoon brought us on a short cycling excursion along Le Rhone — past Bois des Freres and Bois de la Grille — to the area Vernier. I recommend this route if you’d like to see the area outside the city center, because it’s a pleasure to cycle along the river and the roads from Vernier are downhill all the way to the railway station.
