Summer is almost over and travelers return from their trips with numerous travel shots – including some you may not want anyone else than your closest friends to get a glimpse of.

Keep your private vacation memories private with .zip file creator PKWARE’s newly released SecureZIP, a first-rate security software that both compresses and encrypts your digital images. With encryption and public key cryptology, SecureZIP guarantees your travel photos will not be seen by anyone you don’t want to share them with. Even after you save the files to your computer, the pictures will be protected.

SecureZIP is used by 125 U.S. government agencies and 60 percent of the Fortune 100. The company’s latest version of SecureZIP is now available for free to all consumers.

Visit www.securezip.com to install the free software to your computer. Compressing and encrypting your pictures has never been easier!

  • I’d also do full disk encryption using the (free) TrueCrypt, which uses a number of well tested encryption algorithms. Keep in mind to create a long (21 characters at least) randomly generated password for the best protection.

A weak password defeats most of the encryption protections, unless you’re just trying to keep your kid sister from seeing your photos. Especially when traveling to the US, where laptop confiscations are becoming more frequent.

You could even encrypt a USB drive and mail it back, reducing the chances it will be taken by overzealous airport security.

  • Good point. And thanks for letting us know about TrueCrypt. I hadn’t heard about it before. Here’s the link if anyone else is interested
