I Miss Driving
Cadillac CTS, Aston Martin DB9, BMW M6, Jaguar XKR, Ferrari F430… I have a thing for cars. My first time driving alone (although not one of the aforementioned models) I will never forget. Such a freeing feeling.
I also remember those times as a kid, around age six or seven, when dad let me hold the wheel and steer the car while he drove. Sometimes, when my sister and I sat in the backseat, dad went so far above the speed limit that it felt like I sat in a fast carousel. A bit scary, but fun. And a few times he moved the wheel rapidly from side to side, left, right, left, right, — as a way of joking — so I could barely sit still. But mostly I sat in the backseat, looked out the window, and listened to music. Good times.
We did quite a lot of road trips during my childhood, both in Sweden and abroad, and they’ll always remain as some of my fondest memories. I loved when we drove at night and I could see all the lights from the houses and buildings around us, and, sometimes, the stars, and the moon.

Me, too! I’ve barely driven in the past seven years in Asia and whenever I return home, I take every opportunity to go anywhere.
Like you, my childhood memories revolve around long open road trips with my family. My Dad loves to drive and every family vacation, we’d pile into the old sedan and head cross-country. Those were the days. I wonder if John and I will be able to create those same kind of memories for our own kids (when we have them!)

Not easy to be away from it too long.
Cross-country road trips sounds great. Hope you’ll have the chance to do more of them in the future!
