Camping in itself is a fun activity. Something really special happens when you get rid of all distractions and hang out outside, without TVs, computers, cell phones, video games etc. Camping can be a bonding experience between friends or families. There are endless amounts of activities to do during the day depending on where you go camping like swimming, hiking, or mountain biking. Here are some fun ideas to do once you get back to your campsite for the night and settle down.
1) Play Music
There are many fun instruments you can play while you are camping. A fiddle, harmonica, guitar, mouth harp or bongos are portable and relatively easy to play. Get your whole gang to bring a different instrument and you’ll be entertained for hours.
2) Throw Knives
Throwing Stars are a ton of fun if you are safe and cautious. Throwing knives at a large target like a tree stump can occupy you until the sun goes down.
3) Make a Treasure Map
Hide something like a $5 bill and create an elaborate treasure map to get to this treasure. The map can be left for the next group that uses the campsite, and who knows maybe they’ll create a treasure map for the next group and you will have created an urban legend.
4) Whittle Sticks
Folding knives and pocket knives are great tools to whittle sticks with. You can use the sticks for roasting marshmallows. Get creative and see what kind of intricate designs you can make out of a simple piece of wood.
5) Make Crafts
Crochet or knit hats, make friendship bracelets or gather found materials to make jewelry.
6) Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are a fun easy activity to set up when you are on a camping trip. Some of the things you can put on your check list are an oak leaf, acorn, skip rock, lady bug, feather etc.
7) Tell Stories
Telling stories is one of the most organic things that you can do around a camp fire. Campfire stories are the essence of camping, and with a little imagination anyone can come up with an eerie tale.
8) Cook Campfire Food
Smores, bakes beans, potatoes, and baked apples are all delicious campfire food. Gathering around the campfire, and cooking food is another one of those organic experiences that can’t really be put into words how awesome it is.
9) Play Outdoor Games
Bring a Frisbee, soccer ball, volley ball or hacky sack and play with yourself or with friends. These games will kill time as you wait for the sun to go down and the stars to come out.
10) Bring Board Games
Board games like apple to apples or a deck of cards are fun when you just want to hang out. Apples to apples can bring on conversations and laughter that can turn into inside jokes for the rest of the night.
