New York Beaches Worth A Day Trip From Manhattan

If someone says ‘New York City’, the beach isn’t exactly the first thing that springs to mind. But you can get your share of beach fun on this stretch of the east coast. And you can find plenty of cheap flights to New York City.

On the visual travel guide and tour review site Ruba, I recently created a short guide titled ‘Best beaches in New York City, New York’. Ok, so I haven’t seen Long Beach or the Hamptons… yet, but these beaches do make for great day trips from Manhattan.

“If you don’t mind sharing the beach with kids, loud familes, improvised soccer games and portable CD players, you’ll probably like Coney Island as much as I did.”

We’ve always wanted to go to Coney Island but never had a chance to…NYC always keeps us very busy. I hope to find the time to do it one summer!

I can understand that. It’s not especially easy to make time for everything in NYC! Hope you can visit eventually though.

The idea of taking the ferry to Coney Island has always been attractive, but I never thought the beach would be a goer. It looks like I’ll have to add this one to the NY list.
(Ruba sounds interesting, haven’t opened their email yet but will do so now).

We didn’t actually take the ferry (the only ferry we took was the one to Staten Island), we opted for the subway, but I bet that makes for a nice excursion as well. We visited NYC during somewhat of a heat wave so going to the beach at least once was an obvious thing to do.

I can really recommend Ruba by the way. I joined a couple of months ago and have enjoyed reading many of the guides.

you’ve just inspired me to visit at least one of the local beaches wherever I’m. I should have done that when I was in US. It must be very different from what we see in our region.

Visiting at least one local beach in every destination sounds like an excellent idea!
