Where to Stay
Scandic Nyköping City
Scandic Nyköping City on Brunnsgatan 31 in the heart of the city is an outstanding example of a Scandic property with its own personality, atmosphere and style. Thanks to Gothenburg-based interior designers STYLT Trampoli, who designed the restaurant/lobby, and well-attentive staff, the hotel doesn’t rest on the level of average Scandic hotels but raises the bar considerably with an original idea.
The interior is based on story telling around the hotel’s hostess “Miss Nyköping 1962″, who lived a restless life, partly as a Pan Am flight attendant, and returned to Nyköping with lots of objects from her time around the world. Hence, the somewhat flight-inspired interior. For example, the lamps to the left in the café looks like airplane engines.
The combined lobby and restaurant by the entrance creates a natural and dynamic meeting place for guests and visitors. On another side of the reception, the hotel’s whisky bar makes room for more intimate conversations. Opposite, several groups of round tables provide further space for dining guests. Urban photos on the wall improve on the character of the fittingly named Voyage restaurant.
At 17 sqm, each standard room has bathroom with shower and are equipped with hairdryer, desk, armchair, TV, and Wi-Fi. Economy rooms cover 14 sqm. Those wanting extra space can select between Superiors, Junior Suites or the luxurious Suite.
In my small single room on the second floor, I particularly appreciated the high ceilings, view of the pedestrian shopping street Västra Storgatan below, and the picture above the bed. Every room features different pictures.
With a health and fitness facility, guests have no excuses to skip a work out session and one can look forward to some well-spent time in the adjacent Jacuzzi and steam sauna afterwards.
