When living in Malmo, the third largest city in Sweden, I found that the square Drottningtorget is unbeatable in terms of organic living. Morot & Annat, an organic food shop is located at the upper right hand corner near the street Norra Vallgatan. Further up the street you will find Manatura, one of few organic hair salons in Sweden. The owner Joshua Perdy has lived and worked in cities such as New York, London, San Francisco, and Tokyo before establishing himself as an organic hairdresser in Malmo. When I asked which his favourite city is he said it’s the city where he goes to bed at night. Sounds logical, but it was the first time I heard someone say it. Joshua spoke about the increasing demand for non-chemical and eco-friendly products. I hope others will follow in his footsteps.

Manatura has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a cozy mix of second-hand and newer stuff. And it is probably the only hairdresser in the country without mirrors. Manatura is one of Sweden’s retailers of John Master’s Organics and also sells organic hair- and skincare products from Miessence.
Sharing premises with Manatura since the opening in October 2004, Babuschka Sustainable Design offers organic clothes and attracts many regular costumers. The owner Malin Busch is positive to the future of organic living and shows that organic fashion can be far from boring.

Further up the street, at Drottningtorget 6, family-owned Dolce Sicilia makes the most delicious organic Italian ice cream in the city plus terrific crepes, foccacia, salads, milkshakes, fresh pressed juices and Italian coffee. Open daily 11am-9pm.

I adore the ice cream at Dolce Sicilia, great range of flavours too. They also now have a little ice cream bar down at the west harbour not far from turning torso.
