Parga: An Idyllic Greek Town

In the mornings, we sat in Della’s own private garden and ate breakfast surrounded by olive groves and bird twitter. The somewhat bitter flavor of the Greek yoghurt, sweet honey on a slice of white bread, boiled eggs, and cold orange juice made me smile satisfied after each meal during our week-long stay.

Della — unlike other hotels in town — doesn’t have pool or a restaurant but taverns in the area offer traditional Greek food and you can reach the sea in only fifteen minutes.

By the garden, a trail among olive trees leads to the road and, eventually, Valtos Beach behind the Venetian fort nestled on a cliff above the harbor. We also enjoyed Krioneri beach and the neighboring, smaller Piso Krioneri, both beyond the docks. For a bit of exercise, follow the descent from Piso Krioneri to Lychnos Beach, three kilometers outside Parga. And don’t miss a boat tour to the cave of Lychnos (Aphrodite’s cave).

One day, we went by boat to Antipaxos to swim and snorkel in clear blue water, savor appetizing Greek salads, and relax on the beach. A highlight of the week.
