Who knows? That could have been the exact same spot where an American friend and I, cutting classes at Grenoble University in February, 1983, drove up through low cloud into brillian sunshine and two feet of powder snow for what is still my best day of skiing ever. The runs were closed for "off-piste" but we didn't care - just kept going further and further beyond our last tracks for deep snow the whole day.
