[...] I was reminded of the power of sound earlier when I came across, Soundscapes, a little movie that mixes ambient sounds from Berlin, Amsterdam, and Los Angeles into musical compositions (hat tip to Erica Johansson). [...]

There have been lots of wonderful examples of ambient music inspired by travel actually…
It makes sense when you think about it because successful musicians and DJs travel very frequently.
I have a friend who is a DJ from Australia, who is based in Dubai, and he DJs on the Middle East weekend, which is Thursday and Friday (so he works Wednesday and Thursday night) in Dubai and other Gulf and Mid-East cities like Beirut and Cairo, and then he flies to Europe to DJ at clubs in Berlin, Amsterdam, London etc on Friday and Saturday nights.
I’ll put together a list first chance I get.

@lara, That’s true.
DJing in the Middle East two nights a week and in Europe two nights sounds like a dream job! At least the traveling part!
I’m looking forward to read your list.

This is great. We get so swept up with travel photography we can sometimes forget about the power of sound when it comes to travel.

@Katie, I agree. It’s often easier for travelers to focus on and pay attention to what they see rather than the sounds around them. Thanks for commenting!
