The New Travel Guide tripwolf is Now Public

Today, tripwolf launches publicly in the US market. Combining professional editorial content with user-generated content from globetrotters worldwide, tripwolf offers useful tips and recommendations for US travelers who want to stretch their dollars while traveling through Europe.

In 2007, for the first time more trips were booked online than offline in the US. According to JupiterResearch, almost 50% of online travelers choose user-generated content travel sites to check the opinions of fellow travelers. Tripwolf strives to benefit from this growing trend: “We aim to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for travelers,” says tripwolf co-founder and CEO Sebastian Heinzel. “We want to be the leading international travel 2.0 guide.”

Top travel content from MairDumont and travel tips from tripwolf’s knowledgeable “trip gurus” ensure a great experience for tripwolf users searching for relevant information.

German publishing house MairDumont sees excellent value in its investment in tripwolf. “An intelligent combination of our expert knowledge with the experiences of thousands of travelers is the future for us,” says publisher Stephanie Mair-Huydts. “With tripwolf we use all the benefits and advantages of the internet and web 2.0.”

Looks interesting, will have to test it out when planning my next trip.

do you think they will get enough base of users to compare to the depth of user-generated content in the lonely planet forums or other comparable sites? there are a lot of competitors out there…

The blog is a resourceful collection of abstract write-ups, videos, articles, tips and even book review along with interview of the author, all consistently and carefully centering on the topic ‘travel’. All the blog posts are informative, interesting and lucid, speaking volumes about the expert hold enjoyed by the writer on the topic.

True. There are many competitors. Lonely Planet’s user base is difficult to beat. I think it depends on how well they’re marketing and develop their concept.

It does sound interesting, but here’s something different that really bears watching! You know, there are a lot of ways that responsible citizens can help to reduce damage to the earth – and ourselves in the long run. One easy thing is to pick “green” accommodations when available, not just those who say they’re doing something, but those who actually are. You can do this through a website I’ve run across recently, iStayGreen.org, where you not only locate thousands of green hotels, but rate them, which puts pressure on hoteliers to do as much as they can to be well rated.

Uniquely, the site features a social networking system, so groups with like interests can get together, advise each other and exchange information. It’s about time something like http://www.iStayGreen.org came along.
