PC Magazine recently featured the Top 100 Undiscovered Web sites of 2008. The categories in the list include Apps and Services, Fun and Games, Health and Science, Info, Search, and Reference, Lifestyle, Money and Real Estate, Music, News, Photo, Shopping, Social Networking, Technology, and, of course, Travel.

PCMAG.COM has also done a Top 100 Classic Web Sites, but for the ‘undiscovered list’ they’ve picked the sites best capturing what’s new around the Web.

The first site I noticed, Crazy Blind Date, teamed up with parent site OKCupid to set up singles in NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, L.A., D.C., Austin and Atlanta. Let’s say you travel on your own, you’ve just arrived in a new city, you don’t know anyone and you have no fixed plans for the evening, or the next. Why not head over to http://www.crazyblinddate.com, fill out your profile, upload a picture and let the service know where and when, and whether you’d want a single or double date. The only thing you’ll get from your prospective date in advance is their short description of themselves and a super-blurry picture. But who knows, maybe it leads somewhere, perhaps you’ll get a new friend, or a travel companion, or just a really fun evening?

Blind dates are unknown territory for me, but I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot. I like the idea of meeting a stranger, not knowing how much you will have in common, and see how you connect over a cup of coffee, a drink or a dinner. How about you? Have you ever been on a blind date?

As for the travel sites, they had picked five of them.

I especially like EveryScape, which lets you explore both the street view and the interiors of buildings. The service also help you find restaurants, hotels and tourist sites with Yelp.com reviews.

Another site that has gained a lot of attention lately is TripIt.

  • Hi Erica

I completely agree with you about Tripit. Half the fun is the research yourself. Browsing websites – looking for interesting articles and insider info to help you plan your holiday. It’s great to have someone help you book everything up, that’s a travel agent’s job but the excitement of planning goes if someone else simply does everything for you.
