I recently (few weeks back) wrote a blog on the appeal of vacation rentals as well and I’m glad to see them getting attention elsewhere. One thing I wanted to add that goes along with your point about not having to handle issues yourself – more and more vacation rental companies are working with travel planners which means that in addition to having staff nearby to work on issues with the actual property, if there are any issues with your travel during that time (or if you just want to add on activities, day trips, etc) you can work with a travel planner who can handle everything from helping you choose the right vacation rental to handling issues or additions to your trip while you are traveling.

You have more experience than me when it comes to vacation rentals, but I do agree with that the value is better. Good point about the attentiveness of rental owners!

Vacation rentals are the way to go. In my experience, they provide a lot more while usually charging a lot less. I have rented through professional management companies and also directly from owners, and had good experiences both ways. Plus, I have found the owners of vacation rentals to be more attentive to their customers' needs than hotel owners, presumably because they can't rely on name recognition, advertising, and travel guides to drum up business for them. .-= John´s last blog ..In the Southern Highlands =-.
