If you can already feel the January blues catching up with you, why not inject some colour into your life by visiting the Arrecife Carnival? Held on the Canary Island of Lanzarote you can bask in 20˚C heat while everyone at home battles the wintery weather!
Carnival Fun in the Sun
This year the Grand Carnival Gala in Arrecife is held on Monday 11th February, and the floats will leave from local football grounds in the early evening and head to the Cabildo building.
It’s sure to be an unforgettable sight with street performers and decorative dancers lining the roads, as the various parades light up the streets. Anything goes so dress up and join in with the fun! What’s more, if you can’t wait until the great reveal you can get a sneak peak when the floats are exposed in the days before at the Fairground.
The exciting carnival events confirmed for 2013 are the Carnival’s Queen Election, Children Party and for ground-breaking, larger than life, let-your-hair-down fun there’s the spectacular Drag Queen Election. Meanwhile, the stalls and mask dances provide hours of endless fun, and don’t forget to take your camera for those unusual snaps for the family photo album.
Much More to Offer
The Arrecife Carnival will keep you dancing into the early hours but if you fancy something a little slower paced, then Lanzarote has just the thing. The island itself was born out of fiery eruptions, and you can visit the scorched landscape of Timanfaya National Park and wonder at the extreme and bizarre rock formations.
If the lively bars along the sun drenched sands of the popular Puerto de Carmen become too crowded for your liking, head to the more peaceful, laid-back Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, whose laid-back café-bars are worth an evening’s visit.
So, don’t miss out on the chance to dance in the streets and join the party of a lifetime on Lanzarote this February. Visit Jet2.com to book cheap flights to lanzarote, and reserve your place at the Arrecife Carnival in 2013.
